2024 Aubert - Chardonnay Napa Sugar Shack Estate (750ml)
Mark Aubert set out to move a mountain β to narrow the stylistic differences between Napa and Sonoma Chardonnay. The clone specifically selected for his Rutherford Bench site, Sugar Shack, is expressive of its terroir and can maintain high acidity levels, allowing it to express characteristics similar to its Sonoma cousins. The 2024 delivers on that vision brilliantly. It waltzes out of the glass with flamboyant notes of ripe white peaches, guava, juicy pears, and fresh ginger, plus suggestions of orange blossoms and wet pebbles. The full-bodied palate is racy and lively with bold orchard fruit flavors and a silky texture, finishing long with a provocative tropical fruit lift. Β Tons of immediacy right out of the gate β orange confit, roasted apple, pastry, and a kiss of French oak are dialed up nicely, with an exotic side that is hugely appealing. Best enjoyed now through the late 2030s.
