Italy's first single-vineyard white, established in 1971, is showcased in the 2024 Pieropan Soave Classico Calvarino (750ml). Grown on Eocene-era basalt soils at 95–145 meters, this wine expresses a pure sense of terroir.

Winemaking: Fermented and aged 12 months on lees in cement — no oak — to preserve the vineyard's mineral precision and fresh, energetic character.

Tasting profile

The fresher, more energetic of Pieropan's two crus, Calvarino is delicately honeyed with notes of ripe pear, a hint of ginger, green herbs, and apricot pit. A salty twist and a line of silvery bitterness emerge on the finish; the palate delivers rich stone fruit and saline notes balanced by mouthwatering acidity, culminating in a long, finely structured finish.

Cellaring and serving

Approachable now but built to age — drink 2025–2040+.

Food pairings

  • Seafood and shellfish dishes that highlight its mineral character
  • Light pastas and risottos with seafood or herbs
  • Fresh cheeses and simple vegetable preparations that emphasize acidity
