2022 Escala Humana - Tupongato Semillon Credo (750ml)
A white wine of staggering originality and rare historic pedigree — the Credo Sémillon is proof that Argentina's most exciting vinous discoveries are not always red. Founded by husband and wife Ayelén and Germán Masera, Escala Humana is driven by a passionate commitment to the Uco Valley's forgotten vineyards and ancient varieties — and nowhere is that mission more vividly realized than in this extraordinary bottling from one of Tupungato's most treasured old-vine parcels.
Sourced from the El Peral vineyard planted in 1901 — over 120 years old — grown on alluvial soils formed by the Las Tunas river, fermented in concrete eggs with skin contact before completing fermentation in barrel, where it remains for two full years before an additional year of bottle aging prior to release. The patience and conviction required to produce a wine like this speaks volumes. Rated 96 Points by Patricio Tapia of Descorchados, who noted it as a standout among Argentine whites of remarkable concentration and cellar-worthiness. The nose is hauntingly complex — honey, resin, white flowers, chamomile, hazelnut, and ripe citrus weaving together in an oxidative profile of extraordinary richness and definition, while the palate delivers vibrant acidity, creamy depth, and a sublime balance that elevates this to a standout example of the variety anywhere in the world. A wine of genuine greatness from a century-old vineyard that nearly fell into obscurity — and one of the most compelling white wine discoveries in the shop
