Woodford Reserve Distillery sits in Woodford County, Kentucky, on the site of the oldest standing distillery in the country, with roots tracing back to Elijah Pepper in 1812. Master Distiller Chris Morris introduced the brand's Kentucky Straight Rye in 2012 as his first venture beyond bourbon under the Woodford name, spending nearly a decade refining the recipe before its release, timed to the growing demand for rye in classic cocktails.

Woodford Reserve Rye uses a mash bill of 53 percent rye, 33 percent corn, and 14 percent malted barley, a pre-Prohibition style ratio that sits just above the legal minimum for the category. The heavier corn content, paired with Woodford's five sources of flavor approach, produces whiskey blended from both the distillery's own pot stills and column-distilled spirit from Brown-Forman's Shively facility. It is bottled at 90.4 proof without an age statement, aged in new charred oak.

The nose opens with caramel sweetness and toasted almond, layered with black pepper, baking spice, and fresh pear or apple. On the palate, rye spice mingles with honey, dark chocolate, and a touch of red fruit over an oily, semi-viscous texture. The finish leans herbaceous and minty at first, settling into caramel, toasted oak, and charred wood that lingers at a moderate length.
