2022 Trimbach - Pinot Noir Reserve (750ml)
Maison Trimbach has been a benchmark of fine Alsace wine since 1626, guided today by twelfth-generation winemaker Pierre Trimbach alongside his nephew Julien, with brother Jean and Pierre's daughter Anne serving as global ambassadors for the house. The family is among the region's largest holders of Grand Cru vineyards, though this Pinot Noir Réserve draws instead on estate fruit and grower parcels averaging forty years of age, reflecting Trimbach's belief that Alsace deserves recognition for its reds as much as its celebrated whites.
The grapes for this bottling come from the southern part of Alsace, around Rodern and Saint-Hippolyte, where soils shift between granite, sandstone, and marl-limestone, giving the wine a genuine sense of the region's varied terroir. After destemming, the grapes undergo gentle pneumatic pressing followed by an eight-day cold maceration to draw out color and fruit character. This is the only wine in the Trimbach range to undergo malolactic fermentation, carried out in tank, and it's bottled after just three months in stainless steel rather than aged in barrel, preserving its fresh, fruit-forward style.
The nose offers delicate red and black berries with a subtle touch of smoke and forest floor. On the palate, morello cherry and kirsch meet supple, velvety tannins and a bright, juicy freshness that carries through the finish. It pairs naturally with cold cuts, smoked meats, roast poultry, or a soft-ripened cheese.
