2022 Weinbach - Riesling Cuvee Colette (750ml)
Domaine Weinbach sits at the foot of the Schlossberg hill in Kaysersberg, on land planted with vines since the 9th century and established as an estate in 1612 by Capuchin friars. The Faller brothers bought the property in 1898, passing it to Théo Faller, whose wife Colette and daughters Catherine and Laurence carried the domaine forward after his death in 1979. Since 2016 Catherine has run the estate with her sons Eddy and Théo, and the Cuvée Colette, named in tribute to her mother, is one of a handful of wines at Weinbach that honor a family member directly.
This Riesling comes from the Bonnes Terres lieu-dit, a lower stretch at the base of the Grand Cru Schlossberg where the soils turn deeper and sandier than the granitic core of the hill above. The vines here are 50 to 60 years old, and the 2022 was fermented and aged in oak under the domaine's certified biodynamic farming. The approach favors a slow, patient vinification that lets the vineyard's character come through rather than any winemaking imprint.
The nose offers a quiet touch of ripe mirabelle plum alongside white flowers and citrus zest, while the palate turns lemony and precise, framed by a gentle phenolic grip and vibrant acidity that carries into a long, mouthwatering finish. It is a dry, structured Riesling built for the table. Try it with grilled langoustines, a simple roast chicken, or a plate of fresh oysters.
