Delord 1975 Bas-Armagnac 750ml
Armagnac Delord traces back to Prosper Delord, an itinerant distiller who traveled from farm to farm converting wine into brandy before his sons Gaston and Georges formally founded the house in Lannepax in 1932, gradually building exports to the United States. Gaston's son Jacques took over in 1963, followed by his own sons Jérôme and Sylvain in 2001, who added the Galaubas vineyard to the family's holdings in 2020 to expand into organic production. Delord remains notable for using both continuous and traditional double distillation, a rare combination in Armagnac.
This 1975 vintage was distilled from grapes harvested, pressed, and vinified separately at the family's Domaine de Lannepax before undergoing distillation aimed at a slightly acidic, aromatic wine suited to long aging. The spirit spent five decades resting in oak, developing under Bas-Armagnac's soft, humid climate and sandy, lime-poor soils that give the region's brandies their characteristic lightness and fragrance, before being bottled at 40 percent ABV with minimal dilution.
The nose shows raisin, toffee, and delicate floral spice, with hints of hyacinth and violet. On the palate it turns silky and rounded, offering honeyed fruit, toasted nut, and gentle rancio, finishing slow and graceful with lingering warmth and balanced sweetness.
