Delord 25 yr Bas - Armagnac 700ml
Maison Delord has been producing Armagnac since the 1890s, when the family patriarch purchased a vineyard in Lannepax, within the Bas-Armagnac sub-region of Gascony. The estate remains family-owned and operated across three generations, and Delord farms all four traditional Armagnac grape varieties, ugni blanc, colombard, baco, and folle blanche, on the region's sandy soils without synthetic pesticides or fertilizers, distilling the resulting eaux-de-vie entirely on-site.
This 25-year expression is distilled in a single pass through Delord's antique Sier alembic stills, which are run at low temperatures and produce only about thirty liters of spirit per hour, a slow process that preserves more of the grapes' natural fatty acids and flavor. Once distilled, the Armagnac rests for a minimum of twenty-five years in oak casks within Delord's cool, humid cellars, allowing for the gradual development of rancio, the deep, oxidative character prized in long-aged Armagnac. Each bottle is hand-filled and wax-sealed at the estate.
The nose offers dried fig, date, and toasted oak layered with vanilla and a hint of orange peel. On the palate, toffee and caramel move into espresso, cocoa, and dried fruit, with walnut, cinnamon, and old leather emerging as the spirit opens. The finish is long and silky, carrying well-developed rancio alongside clove and roasted cashew.
