Samuel Smith's Taddy Porter 550ml bottle
Widely credited with reviving the English porter style when it launched in 1979, Taddy Porter comes from one of England's oldest independent breweries, still using hard well water drawn from an 85 foot well sunk in 1758 and a house yeast strain cultivated since the early 1900s, fermented in traditional stone Yorkshire squares. Hopped with Fuggles and Goldings, it pours a deep mahogany, nearly opaque color with a lingering tan head. Expect a classic, well balanced profile of roasted malt, toasted nut, toffee, and bitter cocoa, with rich chocolate malt, molasses, and dried fruit character carrying through to a smoky, nutty finish. A genuine benchmark of the style, historically recommended alongside oysters or other shellfish.
