From the Huyghe Brewery in Melle, makers of the iconic pink elephant-branded Delirium Tremens, Delirium Red takes that same Belgian strong ale base and layers in real cherry character for a genuinely distinctive fruit beer. Pours a deep, dark red with a light pink, compact head, and a soft aroma of almond and mildly sour cherries carries through into a sweet, fruity palate balanced by bready malt and gentle tartness. Medium-bodied with fine, creamy carbonation, finishing dry, clean, and crisp, the 8% ABV stays remarkably well hidden. A genuinely dessert-like beer, sweet enough to work as an after-dinner pour but balanced enough to avoid feeling cloying.
