2020 Chateau Pape Clement - Pessac

One of the standout wines of the celebrated 2020 Bordeaux vintage, Pape Clément delivers a powerful yet elegant expression of Pessac-Léognan. The blend is 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and 50% Merlot, aged approximately 18 months in French oak, with 66% new barrels and about 10% in large foudres.  

The wine opens with bold aromas of cassis, plum preserves and licorice, giving way to cedar, crushed rocks, charcoal and pencil shavings. The medium to full-bodied palate is tightly coiled with beautiful tension and a firm, finely grained texture, finishing with great length and energy. Vinous called it "outrageously beautiful — dark, virile and imposing… a rare vintage of Pape Clément that is vertical and statuesque in feel. In a word: magnificent."
