Four Roses Single Barrel comes from Four Roses Distillery in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky, on the banks of the Salt River. The brand traces back to 1888, when Louisville salesman Paul Jones Jr. trademarked the Four Roses name, though the distillery building itself, originally called Old Prentice Distillery, went up in 1910. Four Roses survived Prohibition as one of a handful of distilleries licensed to produce medicinal whiskey, later spent decades as an export-only brand under Seagram's ownership, and was revived domestically in the early 2000s through the efforts of industry veterans Jim Rutledge and Al Young.

Four Roses is known for blending two mashbills with five proprietary yeast strains to create ten distinct bourbon recipes. Single Barrel draws exclusively on the OBSV recipe, pairing the distillery's rye-forward B mashbill with the delicate fruit character of its V yeast strain. Each bottle comes from one barrel hand-selected by the master distiller, aged seven to nine years in single-story warehouses designed to minimize temperature swings, and bottled at 100 proof.

The nose offers dried spice, pear, cocoa, vanilla, and maple syrup. The palate brings ripe plum and cherry, closing with a smooth, lingering finish.
