Green River Wheated Bourbon Whiskey 750ml

Green River Distilling Co. opened its doors in 1885 in Owensboro, Kentucky and has been owned by Bardstown Bourbon Company since 2022. As the brand expanded distribution to 25 states in 2023, it marked the occasion by releasing a wheated companion to its flagship bourbon, swapping rye for wheat while keeping the rest of the classic Green River recipe intact.

Green River Wheated Bourbon uses a mash bill of roughly 70 percent Kentucky grown corn, 21 percent wheat, and 9 percent malted barley, essentially a mirror of the rye forward flagship with wheat standing in as the secondary grain. That swap softens the whiskey's edges, trading rye's spice for a rounder, gentler sweetness. It is distilled and aged onsite at the historic Owensboro campus before bottling at 90 proof, and the recipe has since been named Best Bourbon in the World at the New York World Spirits Competition.

The nose opens with peach, caramel, and apricot, brightened by a touch of cinnamon. On the palate, toffee and pastry lead into a soft hazelnut note before the finish settles into honeyed sweetness. Orange peel lingers alongside the toffee, giving the whole thing a rounded, dessert like character.
