Asbach 8 yr Brandy 750ml

Asbach traces its history to 1892, when twenty four year old Hugo Asbach founded his distillery in Rüdesheim am Rhein. A native of Cologne, he had trained locally at a firm called the Export Company for German Cognac before refining his craft further in France. He originally marketed his spirit as Rüdesheim Cognac, but after the Treaty of Versailles restricted the term Cognac to French products, the company coined Weinbrand, meaning wine brandy, a term that became an official German classification in 1923.

Asbach is distilled from carefully selected German wines using a double distillation method in copper pot stills, closely mirroring traditional Cognac production. Because Weinbrand carries none of Cognac's regional restrictions, Asbach draws on a wider range of wine varietals than French producers are permitted. This 8 year expression matures for at least eight years in small casks of Limousin oak, with a further rest in German Spessart oak following blending, a step the house uses to build additional layers of flavor.

The result is smooth and well balanced, opening with vanilla, baked fruit, and warm oak spice before settling into notes of caramel and dried fruit. The extended aging brings real depth and roundness, making this a more contemplative pour than the house's younger expressions.
