2023 Charles Van Canneyt - Morey St. Denis Les Sorbets (750ml)

Charles Van Canneyt has been at the helm of Domaine Hudelot-Noëllat in Chambolle-Musigny since 2008, taking the reins from his grandfather Alain and steering the estate to its current standing among the Côte de Nuits' finest addresses. In 2012 he began a négociant label of his own, buying must from a carefully chosen circle of growers rather than acquiring vineyards outright. It lets him apply the same house style, pure and transparent to its origin, across a wider range of Côte de Nuits sites than the family domaine alone could cover.

Les Sorbés sits in Morey-Saint-Denis, in a run of premier crus just below the village's grand crus and neighboring the small Clos Sorbés. The soils here drain freely, favoring lighter, more aromatic wines over heavily structured ones. As with his other cuvées, Van Canneyt oversees fermentation and aging himself once the fruit is delivered, keeping oak influence in check so the vineyard's character stays in focus.

The wine offers delicate floral lift alongside black cherry and blueberry, with crunchy red fruit, fresh acidity, and a fine dusting of Morey's characteristic spice. The tannins are silky rather than firm. Pair it with herb-crusted lamb, braised beef, or a wedge of aged Gruyère.
