Domaine Christian Clerget is a small, family-run estate of about six hectares, based at the northern end of Vougeot but actually within the commune of Chambolle. Christian and Isabelle Clerget now work alongside their daughter, Justine, who has brought fresh energy and polish while keeping the house's classic, terroir-driven style, and at her urging the vineyards were certified organic in 2017. The winery sits in the middle of their holdings, so grapes travel only a short distance.

The village Chambolle-Musigny is the domaine's largest cuvée, drawn from roughly two hectares spread across a patchwork of small parcels, with vines planted between 1975 and 1980. The favorable 2022 season made organic farming relatively easy. The wine spends about 18 months in barrel, only 10 percent new, and is bottled without fining or filtration.

Bright, well-defined red berries lead the nose, joined by rose petal and a hint of forest floor. The medium-bodied palate pairs Chambolle's signature silky grace with added density from the warm, dry summer, finishing with vibrant tension and real persistence. Enjoy it with a veal chop and morels or grilled salmon.

"The 2022 Chambolle-Musigny Village has an attractive bouquet of

bright, well-defined red berry fruit, sous-bois and rose petal. The palate

is medium-bodied with crisp tannins; there’s a sense of vibrancy and

tension here, with a very well-controlled and persistent finish. This is

worth seeking out. Tasted at merchants' 2022 Burgundy tastings in

London.
