2022 Henri Boillot - Volnay Chevrets (750ml) [PRE ARRIVAL]
Henri Boillot works from Meursault, where his family has grown grapes since the 1880s, though the modern domaine took shape only after he consolidated the family's holdings in 2005. His son Guillaume has since joined him, bringing a somewhat lighter, less extracted touch to the reds. Alongside estate wines from around fourteen hectares, the Boillots run a respected négociant business.
Les Chevrets sits on the Meursault border, opposite Clos des Santenots, on clay and limestone soils that give the wine more richness and concentration than some of Volnay's other premier crus. Boillot's two-hectare holding here includes vines around sixty years old. The 2022 was raised with about fifty percent new oak, a regimen that adds a full, generous frame around the wine's ripe, compote-like fruit and silky tannins.
This is a vivid, elegant Volnay with a nose of ripe, candied cherries and a full, generous palate resting on silky tannins. The fruit resurfaces intensely at the back, with real purity and balance throughout. It's approachable young but has the material to age gracefully, and pairs well with roast chicken, game, or a hard, aged cheese.
