Louis Boillot launched his domaine in 2002 armed with four generations of Boillot family vineyard holdings — some of Gevrey-Chambertin's oldest and best-positioned parcels — and has built it into one of the most quietly admired small estates on the Côte d'Or, working alongside partner Ghislaine Barthod with son Clément now taking an increasing role in the cellar. Champonnet is a little-seen premier cru that Boillot has helped put on the map; the Rare Wine Co. notes it "ranks among Gevrey's best premier crus." The 2022 is powerful and concentrated, with medium-bodied depth on the palate and a long, driving finish that Meadows notes will need time to fully integrate. The underlying material is serious — dark fruit, firm structure, and impressive persistence — but patience is required. A wine built for the cellar.

90-93 Points
"A riper and distinctly Gevrey nose of forest floor, the sauvage and poached plum displays plenty of earth character. There is notably more power, weight and muscular if notably less finesse to the bigger-bodied flavors that terminate in a robust but not hard finish that exhibits very fine length. This is quite promising though it's also definitely a wine that will require extended keeping."
