2022 Louis Jadot - Gevrey Chambertin Cazetiers (750ml)
Maison Louis Jadot traces its history back to 1826, when it acquired the Beaune premier cru Clos des Ursules, though the House itself was formally founded in 1859 by Louis Henry Denis Jadot, who helped open export markets for Burgundy across northern Europe. Several generations of the family have since led the business, and Jadot remains one of the region's most significant négociant-growers, farming and sourcing fruit across a wide range of appellations.
Les Cazetiers sits at the mouth of the Combe de Lavaux, on south-east facing, clay-limestone slopes at roughly the same elevation as the neighboring Clos Saint-Jacques. Grapes are hand-harvested in small crates, carefully sorted, and destemmed, then macerated in open wood or steel vats for three to four weeks with punch-downs twice a day, before aging around eighteen months in barrels, about a third of them new.
The wine shows cassis and red cherry, with orange zest, smoked meat, and loamy earth in the background. Medium to full-bodied, it has a supple, silky texture with well-integrated tannins and a long, spiced finish. It pairs well with herb-crusted pork loin, a wild mushroom tart, or a semi-hard cheese.
