2024 Alain Hudelot-Noëllat · Vougeot 1er Cru "Les Petits Vougeots"

Region Vougeot, Côte de Nuits, Burgundy
Producer Domaine Alain Hudelot-Noëllat (Charles van Canneyt)
Grape 100% Pinot Noir
Vineyard Les Petits Vougeots, 0.53 ha, vines planted 1970
Classification Vougeot 1er Cru
Production Dramatically reduced — 70% less than usual in 2024
Drink 2027–2037

Les Petits Vougeots is a premier cru parcel situated higher on the Vougeot hillside than the grand cru Clos de Vougeot itself — on thinner, stonier soils that produce wines of notably greater elegance and freshness than the denser, clay-rich lower slopes. Hudelot-Noëllat's 0.53-hectare holding, planted in 1970, is one of the estate's most undersung gems — priced well below the grand cru but drawing from a position on the slope that delivers real terroir character. In 2024, Charles van Canneyt harvested September 18, destemming 100%, with dramatic yield losses producing a tiny fraction of the normal volume. Jasper Morris singles out the Petits Vougeots as one of the standouts of a reduced and precise range — fresh, sophisticated, and silky, with a refined mid-palate and a streamlined, elegant finish that reflects the higher-elevation site. Outstanding value within the Hudelot-Noëllat lineup.

91-93 Points
"Once again the expressive nose of spicy and floral-suffused red berry aromas is cool, airy and ultra-fresh. The silky, refined and intense flavors exude evident minerality on the linear, youthfully austere and equally persistent finale. There is a touch of bitter cherry pop tart on the finish at present but I doubt it will persist for more than a few years after the bottling."
