2020 Louis Jadot - Bonnes Mares (750ml)
Maison Louis Jadot traces its origins to 1826, when Louis Henry Denis Jadot acquired the Beaune premier cru monopole Clos des Ursules, though the house was not formally established until 1859. Several generations of the Jadot family expanded the estate's holdings through the nineteenth and twentieth centuries before selling it in 1985 to Rudy Kopf, the house's longtime American importer. Today Jadot farms roughly 125 hectares across the Côte d'Or, including 14 Grand Cru and around 75 Premier Cru sites, with Pierre-Henry Gagey serving as president.
Jadot's holding in Bonnes-Mares is a small parcel of under a third of a hectare on the Chambolle-Musigny side of the vineyard, laid out as a narrow strip running from the top of the slope to the bottom. This unusual shape means the vines draw from both the white marl and the red clay that define the site's two distinct soil types. The wine ages around eighteen months in barrels from Jadot's own cooperage, roughly a third of them new.
The 2020 is pure and harmonious on the nose, with plush black cherry and cassis fruit and a floral character that grows more pronounced with time. The palate is well balanced, taut and fresh, lightly spiced, and closes on a vivid, mineral-driven finish.
