2021 Jean-Marie Fourrier - Latricieres Chambertin Vieille Vigne (750ml)
This bottling carries the Jean-Marie Fourrier label rather than Domaine Fourrier, the négociant arm he launched with the 2011 vintage to broaden his Burgundy range without saddling the family with the cost of buying more vineyard land outright. Fourrier, who has run the family domaine in Gevrey-Chambertin since the 1990s, applies the same meticulous, low-intervention winemaking to these purchased-fruit cuvées as he does at home.
The fruit for this Latricières-Chambertin comes from a plot of roughly sixty-year-old vines sitting just off the Route des Grands Crus, in the cooler, more restrained part of the Chambertin hillside. The grapes are hand-harvested and gently vinified with some whole clusters, then aged in barrel with modest new oak so the grand cru's characteristic austerity and stony detail remain intact.
True to the appellation's reputation for elegance over power, this Latricières shows red and dark pinot fruit alongside notes of crushed stone, cassis, and underbrush, with a lifted, faintly floral edge. The palate is medium-weighted and racy, with fine, focused minerality and a youthfully austere finish that speaks to real ageing potential. It is a reserved wine on release, more about precision and length than immediate generosity.
