This is a piece of Napa history. The 1992 marked a turning point for Hillside Select — the moment when winemaker Elias Fernandez and the Shafer family entered a dramatic new level of quality, pushing this bottling into an elite class of world-class Cabernet.

The wine opens with a profoundly complex nose of minerals, ripe cassis, cedar, chocolate, and subtle herbs. Full-bodied yet silky, with layers of concentrated, highly extracted fruit, it is exceptionally well-balanced and beautifully pure. ecent notes describe a beautiful magenta color with almost zero bricking, glorious red fruits and cassis, a hint of cinnamon, and a long acid-filled finish with fully integrated tannins — drinking at peak right now and an absolute pleasure.

The Hillside Select vineyards sit beneath the great Stags Leap Palisades, planted on thin, volcanic, nutrient-poor soils that yield small, thick-skinned, intensely flavored Cabernet berries — the foundation of the wine's remarkable structure and depth.  Robert Parker awarded it 95 points in The Wine Advocate.

At over three decades of age, this is a rare and extraordinary opportunity to taste one of California's most iconic Cabernets at full maturity.

98 Points
"Harvested between 24 and 25 brix, the 1992 Cabernet Sauvignon Hillside Select is incredible and shows the richness, depth, and opulence that make this cuvée so special. Full-bodied aromas and flavors of cassis, saddle leather, graphite, and sandalwood are just some of its nuances, and this beauty has resolved tannins, terrific balance, and a great finish. It’s going to hold in its current stage for another decade, and I suspect it will have a gradual decline after that."
