2018 Beringer - Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain Steinhauer Ranch Vineyard (750ml)
Introducing the 2018 Beringer Cabernet Sauvignon from Howell Mountain’s Steinhauer Ranch Vineyard, a 750ml expression that embodies the elevated character of Napa Valley’s mountain terroir. From fruit grown at roughly 1,800 feet, this wine embodies the depth and concentration that define Beringer’s Howell Mountain estate program.
Winemaking & terroir: Steinhauer Ranch—originally known as the Tre Colline Vineyard—benefits from volcanic soils and above-the-fog-line exposure. The 2018 vintage spent close to twenty months in French oak, a period that softens and integrates the wine while preserving the mountain concentration. The result is a plush, medium- to full-bodied Cabernet with a refined, age-worthy structure.
Tasting notes: Plum and black currant emerge on the palate, complemented by dark chocolate, with notes of iron, grilled herb, menthol, and licorice weaving through the profile. The wine finishes with a long, gravelly edge that speaks to its Howell Mountain origins and the vineyard’s rugged character.
Texture & structure: Tannins are ripe yet well structured, supporting a memorable mouthfeel that remains balanced and engaging as it evolves in the glass.
Food pairing: This Cabernet Sauvignon excels alongside heartier fare. Pair it with grilled ribeye, braised short ribs, or a rich mushroom-studded stew to harmonize with the wine’s savory depth and mountain tannins.
