2023 Beaulieu Vineyard - Cabernet Sauvignon Napa (750ml)

Beaulieu Vineyard, known to Napa lovers simply as BV, stands as one of Napa Valley's most historic wineries. Under chief winemaker Trevor Durling—the fifth in BV's storied history—the 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa blends fruit from Rutherford, Calistoga, and St. Helena with BV's estate sites and other high-quality Napa sources to deliver a terroir-driven profile.

The 2023 blend is 83% Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by Malbec, Petite Sirah, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc. The growing season offered ideal conditions, with heavy winter and spring rains replenishing groundwater after years of drought, followed by cooler weather that extended hang time and produced a lively, elegant harvest. After fermentation in stainless steel, the wine was pressed and moved to French oak for malolactic fermentation and aging, then blended with complementary varieties to build mid-palate complexity.

The finished wine is youthful and bright, opening with a generous burst of blackberry and ripe plum layered with cocoa bean, molasses, and chocolate-covered cherry, plus a subtle nutty warmth from toasted hazelnut skin. On the medium-bodied palate, red fruit takes center stage—Bing cherry and red raspberry—leading to a long, raspberry sorbet-like finish, all supported by fine-grained, velvety tannins.

Flavor profile

  • Aroma: blackberry, ripe plum, cocoa bean, molasses, chocolate-covered cherry, toasted hazelnut skin
  • Palate: medium-bodied, juicy red fruit with Bing cherry and red raspberry
  • Finish: long, raspberry sorbet-like with refined tannins

Food pairings

92 Points
"A warm and generous wine with a sweet-seeming richness that makes it easy to sip without further aging. Full-bodied, laced with mostly red fruit, from strawberries to cherries, and with underlying blueberry, cocoa and creme de cassis notes. It is 81% cabernet sauvignon with small amounts of other Bordeaux grapes plus 3% petite sirah. Drink now"
