2022 Tribos - Trasterra Red Alto de Parras (750ml)
Tribos is a family winery born from an unlikely pivot. Its name comes from the Latin "Tribuum," reflecting three families, the Del Bosque, Dávila, and Villarreal, who joined together like the tribes that once inhabited the region, united around one goal: making the best wine in Mexico. After years spent producing pecans, the families established their vineyard in 2013, becoming pioneers of what is now known as "Alto de Parras."
The vineyard sits in the ejido Los Hoyos at 1,700 meters above sea level, where limestone soils and a microclimate of cool mornings and warm days create ideal conditions for complex red varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Malbec, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Franc. This altitude and terroir combination, paired with careful vineyard management, produces wines with fine structure, rich fruit aromatics, and real character, distinguishing the essence of one of Coahuila's finest winegrowing zones. Since 2015, Spanish winemaker José Trillo has guided the winery's approach, with the team remaining highly responsive to his input.
Trasterra, meaning "beyond the land" or "across the earth," reflects Tribos' broader red blend program built from these signature Alto de Parras varieties. Expect a deep ruby-violet color with aromas of ripe red and dark fruit, baking spice, and subtle herbal and toasted notes typical of the estate's oak-aged reds, leading to a round, well-structured palate with soft tannins and a persistent, fruit-forward finish.
This is a versatile red suited to grilled meats, hearty stews, and traditional Mexican dishes.
