2018 The Debate - Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Artalade Montagna Vineyard (750ml)
The Debate remains the joint vision of winemaker Jean Hoefliger and proprietor Rob McKay, who built the label around the idea that Napa Valley's diversity of terroir mirrors the diversity of people and perspectives. Rather than blending sites together, the team bottles select single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignons separately, letting each parcel express its own distinct character within the same vintage.
Artalade Montagna Vineyard sits on Pritchard Hill, one of Napa's most storied mountain appellations, and this bottling is pure mountain fruit farmed for concentration and structure. The volcanic, iron-rich soils here give the wine a distinct mineral backbone, and the site's elevation and exposure produce grapes with real density, requiring patience in the cellar before the wine reaches its fullest expression.
The wine shows a deep garnet-purple color with notes of blueberry compote, baked plum, and crème de cassis, layered with espresso, licorice, and warm stone minerality. Full-bodied and concentrated, it carries granular tannins through a long, silky finish. Pair it with juniper-spiced venison loin, aged Manchego, or a dark chocolate mousse.
