2019 Favia - Coombsville Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley (750ml)
Favia Erickson Winegrowers is a husband-and-wife project built by viticulturist Annie Favia and winemaker Andy Erickson, whose résumé includes work at Harlan Estate, Screaming Eagle, and Dalla Valle. The two focus on a handful of vineyard sites they know intimately, working to let each one express its own character rather than chasing a single house style. Coombsville, in the southeast corner of Napa Valley, has been home to the winery for more than fifteen years.
This bottling is pure Cabernet Sauvignon, drawn mostly from the organically farmed Meteor vineyard along with two neighboring sites, all planted on gravelly, volcanic soils cooled by breezes off San Pablo Bay. That maritime influence lets the grapes reach full ripeness without losing freshness or definition. After fermentation, the wine ages close to twenty months in French oak with minimal racking, a gentle approach meant to preserve texture and let the vineyard show through.
The nose offers pencil shavings, dried sage, and blueberry, opening onto a dense core of blackberry, fig, and dried anise with a warm cast iron edge. Velvety in texture, with fine, cocoa-dusted tannins, it carries real weight while staying balanced. Pair it with grilled bison, braised short rib, or aged gouda.
