2019 Larkmead - Cabernet Sauvignon Napa (750ml)
Larkmead is one of Napa Valley's oldest family-owned estates, tracing its roots to the 1890s in Calistoga. Kate's parents bought the property in 1948, and it was Kate and her husband who built it into the celebrated estate it is today. Winemaker Dan Petroski shaped the wines here for nearly a decade before handing the cellar to Avery Heelan, who came to Larkmead after working at Screaming Eagle.
The Larkmead estate covers one of the largest continuous vineyards in Napa Valley, stretching nearly the full width of the valley floor between Highway 29 and the Silverado Trail, split by the Napa River. This bottling is pure Cabernet Sauvignon selected from that diverse patchwork of soils and microclimates. The 2019 vintage was produced during the winemaking transition, giving the wine both Petroski's structured hand and an early glimpse of Heelan's more nuanced style.
The wine pours deep garnet-purple, opening with pomegranate, blackberry, and cassis alongside notes of leather, macerated cherry, and warm baking spice. Medium to full-bodied, it carries ripe, well-integrated tannins through a long, layered finish. Pour it with grilled porterhouse, aged gruyère, or a dark chocolate espresso cake.
