2021 Auctioneer - Cabernet Sauvignon Napa (750ml)
Auctioneer takes its name from Michael Broadbent, the legendary wine authority who founded Christie's wine department in 1966 and, alongside Robert Mondavi, helped launch the first Napa Valley Wine Auction. When Broadbent's son, Bartholomew, set out to create a wine honoring his father's legacy, he turned to winemaker Trevor Sheehan, whose access to top Napa vineyard sources belies the fact that he didn't grow up in the valley. Together they built Auctioneer around an old-school California style, the kind that first put Napa Cabernet on the world stage.
This bottling draws on fruit sourced across Napa Valley, crafted in a classic, food-friendly style that favors balance and finesse over sheer power or ripeness. Sheehan's winemaking leans on the region's long growing season and diverse soils, aiming for a wine that shows real structure without excessive alcohol or heaviness. The result is a Cabernet built to drink well on release while still holding up over the next several years in the cellar.
The 2021 vintage is dark ruby with a lighter rim, opening with ripe black fruit alongside cedar, coffee, clove, and violet. The full-bodied palate blends fresh and ripe black fruit flavors with balanced tannins and lively acidity, finishing long with a touch of baking spice. Its structure and depth make it a natural match for grilled venison, braised short ribs, or a rich beef stew.
