LaRue Wines was founded in 2009 by winemaker Katy Wilson, who previously honed her craft at the respected Sonoma Coast producer Cobb Wines. From the beginning, LaRue's focus has been on small, single-vineyard bottlings that let each distinct site speak clearly, with Wilson adjusting techniques like whole-cluster inclusion year to year based on the character of the fruit and the growing season.

Rice-Spivak Vineyard is a six-acre, north-facing site south of Sebastopol, owned by Russell Rice and Helene Spivak and planted in 1999. LaRue has sourced fruit from this vineyard since its founding, drawn to its Goldridge sandy loam soils layered with volcanic ash. The site is planted to a mix of Dijon and Swan clones, a combination that consistently produces wines of bright acidity and distinctive minerality.

The wine offers cherry compote, muddled strawberry, and spiced plum, with clove and black tea adding savory depth. Balanced and fresh, it carries a silky texture and energetic, cool-climate length. Pair it with cranberry-stuffed pork loin, seared duck breast, or fresh burrata.

94 Points
"Matured for 20 months in 50% new French oak, the 2021 Pinot Noir Rice-Spivak Vineyard has savory aromas of cranberry sauce, prosciutto, burnt orange peel, aniseed and woodsmoke. The light-bodied palate is elegant yet concentrated, offering broody berry flavors. It has a lacy frame of tannins, bright acidity and a long, spicy finish. 50 cases were made."
