2022 Patent Wines - Sauvignon Blanc Napa Valley
Patent Wines is the project of Tom Rinaldi, the veteran winemaker best known for helping establish Duckhorn's reputation and for shaping one of Napa Valley's most celebrated Sauvignon Blancs. With decades of experience across the valley, Rinaldi built Patent around a single site in Yountville, applying the same meticulous attention to detail that defined his earlier work to craft a wine with real depth and character.
The fruit comes from Miller Ranch, a single vineyard in the heart of Yountville where the Sauvignon Blanc vines are interplanted with small amounts of Semillon and Muscat, adding an extra layer of complexity to the finished wine. Fermentation and aging take place in a mix of new and used French oak barrels alongside stainless steel, a combination that builds texture without letting oak dominate the wine's bright fruit.
This Sauvignon Blanc opens with lime zest, grapefruit, and passionfruit, moving into flavors of green apple, honeydew melon, and lemongrass. Crisp acidity and a light mineral edge carry through to a clean, refreshing finish. It's an easy match for goat cheese crostini, fresh sushi, or a bright citrus salad.
