Talley Vineyards' Pinot Noir program traces back to a defining 1986 vintage that first showed the world-class potential of the variety on California's South Central Coast, earning early praise from Robert Parker and drawing visits from wine luminaries curious about the family's success. A 1994 trip to Burgundy further shaped the winery's approach, reinforcing a commitment to native-yeast fermentation and extended barrel aging that remains consistent today. Now led by the Talley family into its third generation, the estate continues to farm its coastal vineyards sustainably across the Arroyo Grande and Edna Valleys.

Rosemary's Vineyard, planted in 1987 and named for Rosemary Talley, is the coolest of the estate's sites, its shaly loam soils shaping wines of notable structure and elegance. For the 2022 vintage, sustainably grown Pinot Noir grapes were hand harvested at night, then fermented in small open-top bins with native yeast. The wine aged sixteen months in French oak barrels, thirty-nine percent new, and was bottled without fining or filtration.

Aromas of juicy cherry, ripe pluot, and lilac open into flavors of raspberry, pomegranate, and tobacco, carried by a long, fine finish and complex, well-integrated tannins. This Pinot Noir suits grilled quail, a lentil and duck confit stew, or a board of aged gruyère.

96 Points
"The 2022 Pinot Noir Rosemary's Vineyard is the most mineral-laced and savory, with savory raspberries, dried strawberries, crushed stone, and floral, spicy aromas and flavors. Brought up in 39% new barrels, it's medium to full-bodied, has a pure, graceful texture, ripe tannins, and a great finish. It will benefit from just a year in bottle and drink beautifully for a decade."
