Ridge Vineyards traces back to 1885, when Osea Perrone purchased land atop Monte Bello Ridge in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Since the 1960s the winery has built its reputation on old-vine Zinfandel field blends, working with grapes from historic vineyards across Sonoma County and the Santa Cruz Mountains. True to Ridge's minimal-intervention philosophy, winemakers rely on taste and instinct rather than fixed formulas, guiding each wine's fermentation and aging with a light hand.

First made in 2001, Three Valleys is a field blend drawn from vineyards across Alexander Valley, Dry Creek Valley, Sonoma Valley, and Russian River Valley. The 2023 vintage combines Zinfandel with smaller amounts of Carignane, Petite Sirah, Mataro, and Alicante Bouschet. Following Ridge tradition, fermentation takes place in open-top tanks using native yeasts, and the wine spends twelve months aging in oak barrels, a portion of them new.

The 2023 Three Valleys shows aromas of confit cherry, blackberry bramble, licorice, and violets, layered with warm baking spice. The full-bodied palate is rounded and generous, with firm, well-integrated tannins leading to a long, satisfying finish. It pairs well with grilled lamb, aged gouda, or a plate of spicy barbecue.

93 Points
"Generous and robust yet retains a sense of polish, with expressive raspberry and blueberry flavors highlighted by licorice and pepper, plus a whiff of dill as this builds toward fine-grained tannins. Zinfandel, Carignane, Petite Sirah, Mataro and Alicante..."

93 Points
"Made since 2001 from a number of Sonoma County vineyards, the 2023 Three Valleys blends 71% Zinfandel, 16% Carignane, 9% Petite Sirah, 2% each Mataro and Alicante Bouschet from Alexander Valley, Dry Creek Valley, Sonoma Valley, and Russian River Valley. Floral, it is complex and less rustic than usual, the vintage showing classic charm and elegance. Though it is one of Ridge's largest production wines, it is made in the exact same way as all its others, in open top tanks with real oak and native fermentations. It's meant to represent a vintage more than a location. A popular by-the-glass pour, order it when you see it. It's drinking well now and should continue to for another 5-7 years."
