2024 Matanzas Creek - Chenin Blanc (750ml)
Matanzas Creek Winery has crafted site-expressive wines from Sonoma County since its founding in 1977, now operating under Jackson Family Wines from its Bennett Valley Estate in Santa Rosa. Winemaker Marcia Torres Forno, a Chile native who joined the winery in 2010, draws on her family's roots in the Maule Valley to guide a sustainable, terroir-focused approach across the estate's certified vineyards. The winery blends a range of grape clones and fermentation techniques to bring out each varietal's full character.
The 2024 Chenin Blanc draws on fruit from three regions, with the majority grown in River Junction and smaller portions from Mendocino County and Alexander Valley. Torres Forno chose to pick the grapes relatively early to preserve a bright, delicate style, then fermented the juice at low temperatures to protect the fruit's natural vibrancy. The finished wine reaches 11.9% alcohol and shows a crisp, lively acidity that reflects this careful, cool approach.
This Chenin Blanc opens with citrus blossom, lemongrass, honeydew, and pear aromas, along with a touch of ginger and salinity on the nose. The palate carries that same bright fruit alongside Thai lime and a saline, mouthwatering acidity that runs through to a clean finish. It is a refreshing, food-friendly white with real aromatic lift.
