RAEN was founded in 2013 by brothers Carlo and Dante Mondavi, fourth-generation winemakers and grandsons of Robert Mondavi. After their father Tim helped found Continuum with the family in 2005, Carlo and Dante set out on their own path, drawn to the wild, fog-swept hills of the true Sonoma Coast. The name RAEN stands for Research in Agriculture and Enology Naturally, reflecting the brothers' minimal-intervention approach to crafting site-driven, Burgundian-style Pinot Noir.

The Royal St. Robert Cuvée is named for their grandfather and comes from roughly sixteen acres of Gold Ridge soils on the cold, windswept western edge of the Sonoma Coast, where marine fog rolls in daily off the Pacific. Farmed organically, the fruit is fermented entirely whole-cluster with native yeasts and aged in neutral French oak before being bottled without fining, an approach designed to let the vineyard's character speak clearly.

The wine offers rose petal, wild strawberry, and savory herbs alongside black cherry and warm spice, with a lifted, coastal quality throughout. Medium-bodied and silky, it carries a long, lingering finish. Pair it with seared ahi tuna, roast squab, or aged Gruyère.

99 Points
"Spellbinding aromas of rose petals, strawberries, citrus and bark, with hints of lemongrass. Medium-bodied, tight and structured, this offers a captivating combination of linear intensity and calmness, so classy and sophisticated. A continued benchmark for American pinot noir. Drink or hold."
