Seghesio Family Vineyards traces back to 1895, when Edoardo Seghesio, an Italian immigrant, planted his first Zinfandel vines in Sonoma County's Alexander Valley. Now in its fifth generation, the family has remained rooted in Zinfandel and other Italian varietals, with winemaker Ted Seghesio overseeing a style built on consistency and value. The Sonoma Zinfandel is the estate's flagship bottling and its most widely available wine, drawing on decades of family knowledge of the region's diverse growing sites.

Each vintage, fruit is harvested from multiple lots spanning Sonoma County's Zinfandel landscape, with the best selected to build the final blend. A small amount of Petite Sirah is folded in, a tradition the family has maintained for generations, adding depth of color and structure to the wine. The 2024 vintage reached 15 percent alcohol, reflecting a warm growing season, though a portion of cooler-climate fruit helps keep the finished wine balanced rather than heavy.

This Zinfandel offers a bright entry of briary black raspberry alongside notes of currant, plum, and baking spice, with savory touches of black olive and licorice adding complexity. Supple, lively tannins and a gentle lift of acidity carry through to a long, spicy finish. It pairs naturally with barbecue, pizza, or a plate of cured salami and hard cheese.

92 Points
"Supple yet brambly, with expressive flavors of raspberry and black cherry highlighted by roasted sage, cracked pepper and licorice. Finishes with zesty tannins. Drink now through 2034. "
