2024 Spottswoode - Sauvignon Blanc Napa (750ml)
Spottswoode is a historic St. Helena estate dating back to 1882, and it has been in the hands of the Novak family since 1972. Under Mary Novak's guidance, the property became Napa Valley's first certified organic vineyard in 1985, a commitment to sustainable farming that current winemaker Aron Weinkauf carries forward today across the estate's red and white wine programs.
This bottling draws fruit from both Sonoma County and Napa County vineyards, blending 95 percent Sauvignon Blanc with a small portion of Semillon sourced partly from old vines. Rather than relying on a single vessel, the wine is fermented and aged across a varied mix of French oak barrels, small stainless steel barrels, clay amphora, and ceramic and concrete tanks, a technique meant to layer texture and complexity while preserving the fruit's natural brightness.
The wine opens with peach, white flowers, and orange peel, moving into yellow pear and citrus on a mid-palate framed by a long, mineral-driven finish. Medium to full-bodied, it stays silky and precise throughout. Serve it with raw oysters, seared scallops, or fresh chèvre.
