Canadian Club Whiskey 1.75L

Canadian Club was founded by Hiram Walker, who began distilling in Detroit in the 1850s before relocating across the river to Windsor, Ontario, in 1858 to stay ahead of the growing temperance movement in Michigan. His whisky became a fixture at gentlemen's clubs throughout the United States and Canada, earning it the nickname Club Whisky, and in 1889 Walker added the word Canadian to the label after rival distillers tried to use the country name against him. Walker was also among the first to age his whisky for a full five years and bottle it individually rather than selling from a generic barrel, both unusual practices for the era. The brand is still produced at the original Walkerville site, now under Suntory Global Spirits.

Canadian Club is a blended whisky built from a mix of grain and rye whiskies with a notable proportion of rye and barley malt in the mash. After distillation, the component whiskies are aged separately in charred white oak barrels, typically for around six years for the standard expression, where seasonal temperature swings in the warehouse help draw more flavor from the wood. The aged whiskies are then blended together by the company's master blenders to achieve a consistent house style before bottling at 40% alcohol by volume.

The nose brings caramel and vanilla with a light touch of oak spice, while the palate carries that same caramel and vanilla sweetness alongside rye spice and a hint of dried fruit. The finish is warm and moderately long, closing on lingering vanilla and a touch of pepper. It's built with cocktails and highballs in mind as much as sipping on its own.
