Dom Pérignon is the prestige cuvée of Moët & Chandon, drawn from grand cru vineyards and the historic premier cru village of Hautvillers, where the Benedictine monk for whom the wine is named once worked. Created from the 1921 vintage, the label is released only in years the house judges exceptional, and since 2018 Vincent Chaperon has overseen its blending as chef de cave, succeeding longtime cellar master Richard Geoffroy.

The 2017 growing season brought a hot, dry summer followed by damaging late-August rains, making it a difficult year across Champagne. Careful selection meant the Pinot Noir that survived was intensely concentrated, resulting in a blend of roughly 62% Chardonnay and 38% Pinot Noir, one of the most Chardonnay-heavy releases in the house's history. It spent about seven years aging on its lees before disgorgement in March 2024, and yields were so reduced that total production is the smallest of any Dom Pérignon vintage to date.

The wine offers a deep, structured character with aromas of orange peel, dried apricot, toasted hazelnut, and buttered toast, along with the house's signature smoky reduction. On the palate it is full-bodied and richly concentrated, framed by a pillowy mousse, vibrant acidity, and a long, resonant finish with a touch of bitterness. It suits caviar, roasted lobster, or a rack of lamb with herbs.

98 Points
"The 2017 Dom Pérignon is just as stunning as it was last year, if not more so. What a wine! Lemon confit, marzipan, white flowers and chalk soar out of the glass. The 2017 is like a slightly more refined version of the 2002, another year in which the Chardonnays were quite opulent.
In 2017, Chardonnay accounts for 61% of the blend, very high for Dom Pérignon. Over the last year, the 2017 has gained mid-palate creaminess and has just come together beautifully. Sadly, production is tiny, so much so that the 2017 is expected to be in the market for just a few months before the maison transitions to the 2018.
