2023 Charles Van Canneyt - Chablis Vaudesir (750ml)

Charles Van Canneyt has led Domaine Hudelot-Noëllat in Chambolle-Musigny since 2008, succeeding his grandfather Alain, and built it into one of the most admired names on the Côte de Nuits. In 2012 he launched a négociant label under his own name, drawing on longstanding relationships with growers across Burgundy, including several outside his home appellation. That network now extends north to Chablis, where he sources fruit from Grand Cru sites like Vaudésir, applying the same exacting standards he uses for his own domaine wines.

Vaudésir sits in the heart of Chablis's Grand Cru slope, on Kimmeridgian clay and limestone soils richer in clay than its neighboring crus, with south-facing exposure that allows even ripening. It is one of the smallest and most sheltered of Chablis's seven grands crus, long associated with wines of particular softness and finesse. Fruit is harvested and pressed to Van Canneyt's specifications, with fermentation and aging completed under his own care to preserve the site's natural precision.

The wine shows citrus blossom, white flowers, and wet stone, with a creamy mid-palate that tightens into a long, saline finish. It calls for oysters, turbot, or aged Comté.
