2023 Fontaine-Gagnard - Chassagne Montrachet Morgeot (750ml)

Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard grew out of the storied Gagnard-Delagrange lineage, formed in 1982 when Richard Fontaine married Laurence Gagnard, daughter of the respected Jacques Gagnard. The couple's daughter, Céline Fontaine, now runs the roughly ten-hectare estate, which spans Chassagne-Montrachet, Puligny-Montrachet, and Meursault, alongside small holdings in the grand crus of Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet, Bâtard-Montrachet, and Montrachet itself. The domaine farms organically, certified by Ecocert, and favors manual harvesting and minimal intervention throughout.

Morgeot is one of several premier cru sites the family works in Chassagne, and like the rest of the range, this wine ages in barrel with roughly a third new oak. Fontaine-Gagnard's style leans toward wines that show classic balance and easy charm early on, while still carrying enough underlying structure to develop well over time.

The nose offers clementine and beeswax, with a touch more minerality than some of the domaine's other premier crus. On the palate it is fresh and concentrated, opening with a slightly viscous texture that settles into a long, terroir-driven finish as it breathes. Pair it with grilled sole, roast chicken, or a rich Vacherin cheese.
