Chateau Montifaud L 50 Petite Champagne Cognac 750ml
Château Montifaud has been a family affair since 1837, with the Vallet family now guiding the estate across six generations near Jarnac in the Petite Champagne region. Unlike the large negociant houses that purchase eaux-de-vie from outside growers, Montifaud grows all of its own grapes and controls every step from vineyard to bottle, working across roughly 130 hectares of Grande and Petite Champagne soils. The estate's cellars have been aging cognac since 1866, and its Paradis holds some of the family's oldest and rarest reserves.
L 50 is drawn from this deep cellar of very old stock, distilled by Louis Vallet, the fourth generation to run the estate. The eaux-de-vie are distilled on the lees for added richness, then aged first in new French oak and later transferred to older barrels to soften the wood's influence over decades. As the cognac ages, its natural alcohol level drops toward fifty percent before final dilution to bottling strength.
The result pours a deep copper hue and offers walnut, cigar box, and warm spice on the nose. The palate carries dried apricot, toasted almond, and a savory rancio character that builds into a long, layered finish.
