B&B traces its origins to the 1930s at New York's famed 21 Club, where bartenders began combining Bénédictine, the herbal liqueur produced in Fécamp, Normandy, with brandy, layering the two in equal parts as a pousse-café style drink. The combination proved popular enough that in 1937, Le Palais Bénédictine began bottling a premixed version at 60 percent Bénédictine and 40 percent French brandy, sold under the B&B name. Bénédictine itself dates to 1863, when wine merchant Alexandre Le Grand developed the recipe from old medicinal formulas connected to a religious foundation, and it remains flavored with a secret blend of twenty seven herbs, flowers, roots, and spices. The premixed B&B has gone on to account for a large share of Bénédictine's total worldwide sales.

Today's B&B blends Bénédictine D.O.M. with fine French brandy, historically Otard VSOP cognac, in that same 60 to 40 ratio. After blending, the liqueur rests for several additional months, traditionally in French oak, allowing the herbal and spiced character of the Bénédictine to soften and integrate with the brandy's oak and fruit notes. The result is noticeably drier than straight Bénédictine, trading some of its honeyed sweetness for a more balanced, brandy forward profile.

The color is a clear, golden amber, slightly lighter than Bénédictine on its own. The nose offers mint, cardamom, cacao, and black tea alongside honey and apple wood. On the palate, nutmeg, cinnamon, and gingerbread spice appear over a base of hazelnut and dried fruit, finishing with cognac warmth and a lingering trace of honey. It's typically served neat or over ice as an after-dinner digestif.

"B&B is a proprietary matured blend of French Brandy and Benedictine Liqueur. The making of B&B requires a slow process; Mellowing the blend in Oak Barrels produces the signature taste of B&B."
