Clement Creole Shrubb Liqueur D'Orange 700ml
Rhum Clément traces its roots to 1887, when Homère Clément converted one of Martinique's leading sugar plantations into a producer of rhum agricole. The estate, based in Le François on the island's lowlands, went on to become the top-selling rhum agricole brand and one of the few French Caribbean producers to hold an AOC designation. Créole Shrubb itself grew out of a family recipe from the Clément household, a holiday tradition that has been bottled commercially since the 1960s.
Shrubb is a Martinican style of orange liqueur, distinct from the vinegar-based drinking shrubs known elsewhere, and Clément's version blends both unaged and aged rhum agricole rather than the neutral spirit used in most orange liqueurs. Bitter orange peels are sun-dried on the island, then macerated into the rum along with a mix of Creole spices before the blend rests in oak casks for about a year. Cane sugar syrup is added prior to bottling to round out the final liqueur.
Créole Shrubb offers bright orange and mandarin zest layered with white pepper, vanilla, and acacia honey, all riding on the grassy, slightly funky character of agricole rum. The finish is long and zesty, carrying a gentle spice that gives it more depth and complexity than typical triple sec style liqueurs.
