Cocchi Aperitivo Americano Rosa Aperitif 750ml
Cocchi Aperitivo Americano Rosa is made by Giulio Cocchi Spumanti in Asti, in Italy's Piedmont region, a house that traces back to 1891 when a young Florentine pastry chef named Giulio Cocchi settled in the town and turned to winemaking. His aromatized wines and sparkling Moscato quickly became emblems of Asti during the Belle Époque, and the label's original futurist rooster, designed decades later, still marks the brand as a symbol of the town's aperitif culture. Since 1978 the Bava family, well known for their own Piedmontese sparkling wines, has owned and run the house.
Rosa is the newer sibling to Cocchi's original Americano Bianco, built on a base of red Piedmontese wine rather than white. Brachetto d'Acqui and other regional grapes lend it color along with berry and rose character, and the same core botanicals used in the Bianco, gentian, cinchona bark, and citrus peel, are joined here by ginger, vanilla, and rose petals for a rounder, more floral profile. As with the rest of the Cocchi range, the blend rests before bottling to let the flavors integrate.
Cocchi Americano Rosa opens with wild rose, ripe berry, and a touch of warm spice from the ginger and vanilla. On the palate it balances gentle sweetness against the same clean, quinine-driven bitterness found in the Bianco, finishing with lingering fruit and a soft herbal edge that makes it a fuller, more perfumed style of Americano.
