Founded in 1870 in Alsace, Distillerie G.E. Massenez has stayed in family hands for generations, building its name on traditional eaux-de-vie and crème liqueurs rather than industrial production. It was Eugène Massenez who developed the formula for raspberry eau-de-vie, and the house is credited as the first to distill wild raspberries commercially, a distillation method still held as a closely guarded family secret today. That commitment to artisanal practice earned Massenez international recognition over the decades, including a world quality award in 1980, and the majority of its output is now exported around the globe.

Production takes place at the distillery in Dieffenbach-au-Val, where only carefully selected raspberries are used. The fruit is stored in large fermentation vats ahead of distillation, then given a patient maturation period before bottling. As with the house's other crèmes, a generous sugar concentration is added to reach the richer, more viscous "crème" style, resulting in a liqueur built around genuine raspberry character rather than artificial flavoring.

In the glass this liqueur shows a vivid ruby color leaning toward deep cherry red, with a fluid, light texture. The nose offers fresh raspberry with a hint of spice, alongside subtle undertones of other red fruits such as blackcurrant. The palate is discreet at first, then opens into a persistent, flavorful finish.
