Giffard Creme de Pamplemousse Rose Liqueur 750ml
Giffard's story begins in 1885 in Angers, when pharmacist Emile Giffard set out to create a refreshing drink for his clientele during hot French summers. His research into the digestive properties of mint led him to steam-distill Mitcham peppermint into a liqueur he named Menthe-Pastille, which found instant popularity and prompted him to convert his pharmacy into a full distillery. Four generations later, the Giffard family still runs the house from the Loire Valley, applying the same time-tested methods and quality standards to its wider range of crèmes de fruits.
To make this crème de pamplemousse, fresh pink grapefruit peels are steam-distilled to draw out their volatile essential oils and aromatic compounds, a method chosen specifically to preserve the fruit's vivid citrus character while keeping harsh bitterness in check. The resulting extract is blended into a sweetened base to reach the fuller-bodied crème style, finishing at a comparatively light 16 percent alcohol by volume. The approach keeps the liqueur close to real grapefruit rather than a generic citrus flavoring.
In the glass it shows a pale, warm blush with rose-tinted highlights. The nose is fresh-cut grapefruit with a touch of sweetness and a light floral, zesty lift. On the palate, juicy citrus plays against the fruit's natural bitterness and acidity, finishing with a bright, pith-like citrus note.
