Kronan Swedish Punsch was created in 2012 through a partnership between Haus Alpenz founder Eric Seed and Swedish master blender Henrik Facile, who had spent years working in Swedish spirits before launching his own Facile Punsch in 1994. Facile was troubled by how Sweden's national drink had faded in quality over the decades, particularly since Systembolaget, the country's retail spirits monopoly, still carried only a handful of punsches largely unchanged since 1917. Seed enlisted him to develop a version aimed at reviving the category for the American market, drawing on centuries of Swedish drinking tradition that dates to 1733.

Kronan is built from batavia arrack, a pot distilled rum made in Java from molasses fermented with local red rice and wild yeast, then aged in open teak vats before being blended with aged Guyanese Port Mourant rum and high ester Jamaican rum. The recipe echoes the original Swedish Punsch tradition established after sailors first brought batavia arrack back from Indonesia to Gothenburg in the eighteenth century, and the finished liqueur derives its complexity from the character of these rums themselves rather than from added spices or botanicals.

The result is dark and richly aromatic, with notes of toffee, molasses, and dried orange peel alongside a distinct smoky, funky undertone and a touch of leather. The body is full and layered, with a long, warming finish. It has traditionally been served warm alongside pea soup in Sweden, and remains a key ingredient in classic cocktails such as the Doctor and the Diki Diki.
