Maraska is a traditional spirits and liqueur producer based in Zadar, on Croatia's Adriatic coast, a region with a long history of crafting fruit-based liqueurs from local ingredients. Orahovac represents one of the Dalmatian coast's oldest liqueur traditions, a green walnut spirit that locals have made and consumed since ancient times, originally valued as a folk remedy for the stomach, liver, and blood before it became the after-dinner sipper it is known as today. This bottling is produced under kosher certification.

Production begins each summer with the harvest of unripe, still-green walnuts gathered from local farmers along the Dalmatian coast. The whole walnuts are macerated in ethyl alcohol and left to steep in stainless steel tanks for an extended period, drawing out their color, bitterness, and aromatic oils. The infusion is then filtered and blended with water, sugar, and additional alcohol to round out the final liqueur, with no artificial colors or flavorings added at any stage.

The result is a rich, supple liqueur with a slightly tart edge, carrying spice and citrus notes alongside characteristic bitter walnut flavor. It is traditionally served well chilled and neat, either as an aperitif or a after-dinner digestif, and it also lends depth to winter cocktails or a glass poured alongside dark chocolate or a walnut torte.

"A distinctive liqueur from Croatia, made from unripe green walnuts. Aromas of spices and citrus sit alongside bitter walnut notes in a supple, rich liqueur that is often enjoyed after dinner. This can also be used to add depth to winter cocktails."
